Internet star Jake Paul and former NBA star Nate Robinson had the fight of a lifetime, this match had the world on edge.
On Saturday, November 28th, Jake Paul and Nate Robinson had a boxing match at the Los Angeles Staples Center. Jake Paul scored a trio of knockdowns en route to a brutal second-round knockout. “I am taking this seriously,” Paul said. “There is a long list of opponents I want, like Conor McGregor and [fellow MMA fighter] Dillon Danis. I want to knock both of them out. I want to be in this sport for a long time. I’m in love with this so why not?” Paul proved experience overpowers the height and age differences that Robinson had over Paul.
Many players apart of the NBA family responded to the fight; Including professional basketball player Stephen Curry. Nate Robinson had tweeted, “Gonna shock the world bro,” to which the Warriors superstar joked after the fight, “I see no lies.” Joel Embiid (another professional basketball player) tweeted, “NIGHT NIGHT.” And many more had tweeted with humorous tweets about Robinson.
The day after the fight, despite his loss, Robinson sent a positive message through his Instagram, “Verified I need to thank all my brothers for their support! There are too many to name, and IG only lets me choose 10 pics..but I’ve seen every one of you. HUGE shout out to my brother KG for being there, and all of y’all that have reached out to me PERSONALLY…Mike Bibby, Carlos Arroyo, Bonzi Wells, Malik Rose, everyone in these pics, etc. It means the world and we’re gonna come back even better. #holdat” Robinson thanked many people for being there for him after his match and then ended it with a positive message.
Well, where did this fight originate? The drama between Jake Paul and Nate Robinson started way back in May of this year. A few months after Paul’s win over AnEsonGib (A Youtuber and friend of the Sidemen), Robinson spoke with TMZ sports about wanting to fight Jake Paul. “I want all the smoke,” Robinson said to TMZ Sports. “I’m a top-tier athlete. You beating me would probably be the biggest accomplishment for your boxing career, or social media influencer – whatever. That’s your biggest claim to fame right now is knocking out Nate Robinson, so come do it. I’m putting everything on the line for you. Let’s get it done. It’s that simple.” By July, both sides had agreed to a boxing match. In a statement announcing the fight, Robinson said, “I wanted to show that I’m a world-class athlete. I played college football, played in the NBA for 11 years, and I’m excited about this venture into the sport of boxing.”
This was an unusual match to watch. It will be exciting to watch both of these athletes as they continue their journey into the ring.
