June 14, 2015, is the day that the unimaginable happened. Nicholas Godejohn, who was speculated to be Gypsy’s boyfriend at the time had returned to Springfield, MO on that same day that Gypsy and her mother Dee Dee had come home from a doctor’s appointment. When Gypsy and Dee Dee got inside Dee Dee went to sleep. Not long after Gypsy allowed Godejon in the home, allegedly Gyspy had given him weapons to murder her mother which were duct tape, gloves, and a knife. Gypsy then hid in the restroom and covered her ears to not hear her mother’s scream.
Gypsy and Godejon fled the murder scene with 4,000 dollars in cash that they had stolen from Dee Dee. They stayed at a motel where they would plan their next move, around that time they were seen on several security cameras at local stores. To avoid getting caught they mailed the murder weapons to Wisconsin, at the home of Godejon, not long after they took a bus to Wisconsin. The police report was filed when Dee Dee’s Nissan Cube was still in the driveway and Gypsy’s wheelchair was still there as well. When the sheriff came up to the door no one answered. This led them to be very suspicious and a warrant was issued to search the house.
The sheriffs found Dee Dee’s body face down in the bedroom outside of her home in Springfield, MO. It was later reported that there were various stab wounds leading sheriffs to believe it was a murder. Gypsy was nowhere to be found on the crime scene. The sheriffs discovered that there had been someone writing very disturbing messages on Dee Dee’s Facebook. They ended up tracking the IP address and found out that the culprits were in Wisconsin. There, the two were put under arrest. Gypsy was 24 and Godejon was 29 at that time. They were both found guilty. Gypsy was charged with second-degree murder and Godejon was charged with first-degree murder. This case is still talked about today due to all the emotional abuse Dee Dee put Gyspy through. So many lies were made up about Gyspy all due to her mom telling everyone that Gyspy had leukemia, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, and the list goes on.
