Ms. Koizumi is the drama teacher here at Creek. She teaches Drama 1, Drama 2 and Tech Theatre. She also produced all of the school plays and musicals and sometimes directs and designs the productions as well, but most of the time it is done by student directors and designers.
When asked why she wanted to become a drama teacher, She responded, “I was volunteering at an elementary school directing a production of Gold Dust or Bust for a group of 4th graders. I fell in love with working with students to find the joy in theatre.”
After attending San Leandro High School. Ms. Koizumi had to submit her transcript from UC Irvine where she got her Master’s of Fine Arts in Drama to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to demonstrate her mastery of the subject area in order to achieve a drama credential needed to become a drama teacher.
Being the drama teacher here at Creek, Ms. Koizumi has seen hundreds of plays performed. However, out of all the plays performed, the play that Ms. Koizumi considers her favorite is Little Shop of Horrors, reasoning that “With ‘Little Shop’, I think we really found our voice as a drama program and were able to produce a compelling piece of theatre.” Speaking of school plays, “The Wizard of Oz: A Radio Play” is available now on Drama’s Patreon account. When Ms. Koizumi is not in the classroom, she likes to knit and watch her favorite TV show Charmed. It’s also where she could eat her favorite food like Ike’s Sandwiches and favorite ice cream: Cookie Dough.
