To choose the nominees, Goodreads has taken data from millions of readers’ books added to their shelves, rated stars, and reviews to decide on applicable works. Goodreads narrow the choices even more by only allowing books with a rating of 3.5 or higher. With these guidelines, Goodreads has nominated 15 books for each category.

The voting schedule:
Opening Round: October 27 – November 8
The voting is now open to the 15 nominees, though write-ins are accepted as long as it follows the 2020 eligibility criteria.
Semifinal Round: November 10 – November 15
Top 5 write-ins are added into the list of nominees of the corresponding category. No more write-ins are allowed.
Final Round: November 17 – November 30
The ballot now only has the top 10 books from each of the categories. This is the last chance to vote.
Winners Announced: December 8
One novel from each category will be deemed the “best book.”
Achieving the spotlight is no easy feat, though the benefits all pay off. The winning books are awarded publicity from one the biggest and most popular book websites. The reputation of the author and their work can and will skyrocket. By taking part in this competition, America’s next bestseller may be revealed.
